The corners of your mouth are the first thing that defines your smile. If you've been troubled by an unnatural result after a first surgery, Dr.Tak begins by analyzing what created that unnaturalness, then redesigns a natural smile line. No unnecessary procedures — only the correction you genuinely need.
Who It's For
- Your mouth corners are lifted so high they look unnatural, almost a "Joker" smile
- The corners stay raised even with a resting face, which feels awkward
- The two corners healed at uneven heights or shapes
- A scar at the corner is visible or creates a pulling sensation
- The effect was too weak, or the corners have drooped again over time
Why Revision Is More Difficult
The corner of the mouth is where the expressive muscles — the levator anguli oris and depressor anguli oris — interweave with mucosa and skin. Once an area has been operated on, scar tissue and adhesions are added on top, so revision calls for a far more delicate approach than the first surgery. Because a difference of just 0.5mm can change your entire smile, revision demands a higher level of analysis and skill. As a clinic dedicated to the lip corners and lips, Dr.Tak Plastic Surgery resolves this difficulty with accumulated experience.
Dr.Tak's Revision Principles
- Precise scar and structure analysis — We carefully assess the scar from your previous surgery along with any change to the muscle and mucosa.
- One-on-one root-cause consultation — We first clarify why the result became unnatural. Operating again without knowing the cause only repeats the same problem.
- Realistic expectations — We are honest about what can be reversed and what is difficult.
- Redesigning a natural line — We clean up the scar with micro-sutures and rebalance the two sides so the corners look natural both at rest and in a smile.
Timing
Revision is safest once the tissue has stabilized — at least 6 months after the original surgery. Going too early raises the risk of worsened scarring and poor blood supply.
The Procedure
When the corners have been overcorrected, we ease the over-lifted corners down; where there is asymmetry, we redesign both sides for balance. Scar tissue is excised and refined with micro-sutures to improve its position and direction, and we adjust the balance of mucosa and muscle so the line looks natural even with a resting face.
Aftercare — It Shapes the Result
Taping aligned with the incision direction prevents the scar from widening. Because smoking delays wound healing, we recommend stopping for at least 3 months — ideally 6. To keep the scar from hardening, periodic massage and, if needed, scar-softening injections can be combined.
