Permanent (Non-Soluble) Filler Removal

Safely remove non-absorbable substances like PMMA, silicone, and Aquamid via micro-incision. We are honest that 100% removal isn't always possible — our goal is maximum safe removal.

Non-absorbable materials like silicone, Aquamid, and Aqua-fill don't break down in the body. They may seem fine initially, but as time passes, lips often become hardened, painful, and deformed. Studies report the average period until complications appear after foreign-body injection is 8.8 years.

100% Complete Removal May Not Be Possible — We Tell You Honestly

Foreign substances spread through tissue like water absorbed into a sponge. Just as you cannot perfectly separate gravel from concrete, it's difficult to completely separate substances that have infiltrated tissue. Therefore, Dr.Tak's surgical goal is "to safely remove as much foreign material as possible." We clearly distinguish what is and isn't possible, helping patients undergo surgery with realistic expectations.

Surgical Method

Recently injected filler may sometimes be removed non-incisionally. When the substance is deep inside the lip or has formed granulomas, micro-incisional direct removal is necessary. The key is preserving as much normal tissue as possible while removing the foreign material — because lips have many blood vessels and are sensitive, we proceed carefully, one stitch at a time.

What to Know Before Surgery

First, multiple staged surgeries may be needed for safety. Second, because some tissue is removed along with the foreign material, lip shape and volume may change, and reconstruction procedures may be needed. Third, antibiotic compliance, smoking/alcohol abstinence, and stimulus avoidance during recovery determine outcomes.

Early Detection Matters

Foreign body side effects progress slowly, so symptoms often go unnoticed initially. If your lips frequently crack/split repeatedly, swell whenever tired, or you feel discomfort even 1+ years post-procedure, consult a specialist. Earlier detection = wider treatment options and better results.

Dr.Tak's Promise

We never exaggerate surgical effects. With 100% appointment-based scheduling, we take ample time to thoroughly examine your lip condition and inquire about past procedure history. After surgery, we conduct regular follow-ups and necessary additional treatments, accompanying you fully until you've completely recovered and returned to daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can permanent filler (silicone, Aquamid, etc.) also be removed?
Yes. These substances are not broken down by the body, so over time the lips can harden and develop pain or deformity, which is why we remove them as safely as possible through a micro-incision.
Can it be removed 100% completely?
To be honest, that is difficult. The foreign substance becomes intermingled with the surrounding tissue, so the goal is to safely remove as much of it as possible. We clearly explain what is achievable and what is difficult.
Is it finished in a single session?
For safety, it is often done in several staged sessions. When removing everything at once would be dangerous or impossible, we do not force it.
Will the shape of my lips change after removal?
Because some tissue is removed along with the foreign substance, the shape and volume may change, and in some cases a reconstructive procedure may be needed after removal. Aftercare during recovery—taking antibiotics, not smoking, not drinking, and avoiding irritation—has a decisive effect on the outcome.
When should I consider removal?
Side effects progress slowly, so they often go unnoticed in the early stages. If your lips crack frequently, swell when you are tired, or you still feel the presence of a foreign body even 1 year after the procedure, we recommend a consultation with a specialist. The earlier you act, the wider your options and the better the outcome.
