Even the best surgery loses its appeal if the scar stands out. Dr.Tak analyzes scars from your previous surgery in detail and combines surgical and non-surgical methods to minimize them and restore a natural skin texture. No unnecessary procedures — only the care you genuinely need.
Who It's For
- A scar along a lip or philtrum incision line is visible or stayed red
- The scar is hard and raised (hypertrophic) or looks sunken
- The scar pulls the lip or philtrum line, or makes it look asymmetric
- Pigmentation has been left behind at the scar
- You want to improve only the scar after surgery at another clinic
Why Revision Is More Difficult
The area around the mouth is in constant motion, so scars there tend to widen or thicken easily, and existing scar tissue and adhesions raise the risk of recurrence. A scar does not simply disappear by cutting it out; its position, direction, and tension all have to be considered together. As a clinic dedicated to the lips and philtrum, Dr.Tak Plastic Surgery corrects scars while also accounting for the grain of the skin and the movement of your expressions.
Dr.Tak's Revision Principles
- Precise scar analysis — We carefully assess the scar's shape, depth, color, degree of adhesion, and underlying cause.
- One-on-one root-cause consultation — We start by understanding why the scar became prominent: tension, aftercare, or skin type.
- Realistic expectations — We are honest that the goal is not to "erase" a scar but to make it inconspicuous.
- Integrated surgical + non-surgical care — We pair micro-sutures with laser, scar-softening injections, and taping to elevate the result.
Timing
Revision is safest once the scar has matured sufficiently — at least 6 months after the original surgery. Red, firm early scars are managed first with non-surgical care while we time the procedure.
The Procedure
We excise the prominent scar tissue itself and re-close it with micro-sutures aligned to the grain of the skin and the direction of tension. As needed, pigmentation and redness are addressed with laser and firm scars with scar-softening injections, combining surgical and non-surgical approaches.
Aftercare — It Shapes the Result
Taping aligned with the incision direction reduces tension and prevents the scar from widening. Because smoking delays healing, we recommend stopping for at least 3 months — ideally 6. UV exposure worsens pigmentation, so thorough sun protection is essential throughout recovery, along with periodic massage.
